Forum: classic_tv Subject: A question for Video-Cellar for infomation on two early Australian series: "Leave it to the Girls" and "Hit Parade"

I read that "Leave it to the Girls" was a 30 minute series that aired on Nine...is this correct, and which Nine station? I already know the format and that it started in 1957 (near-identical to US series of same name), but I don't know what year it ended. I would like to know this as I want to submit a page for it on IMDb.

Also, while I know the format of "Hit Parade" (dancers...well, danced and pantomimed to hit recordings, usually in settings...simple production numbers, perhaps?) and that it aired on the Melbourne 7 station, I don't know which year it started or ended. Again, any infomation would be appreciated.

Sorry for asking these questions, but you know me, always curious about everything, but I am very poor at researching using the internet.

Wish some of those old Australian series would be uploaded. They can't be worse than "Strike it Rich" or "Queen for a Day" (wonder if either of those was ever done on Australian TV? I shudder at the thought.)

(also, sorry for repeatedly modifying this post)

"Leave It To The Girls" was produced by ATN-7 (Sydney), and ran on GTV-9 (Melbourne). So Far as I can tell, it ran in 1957 only.

"Your Hit Parade" (the HSV-7 version) began in November 1956. ABN-2 Sydney also had a program with the same title, running from 1958 to 1959. One of the dancers on the HSV series, Judd Laine, revived the series on QTQ-9 Brisbane in 1963.

Thanks, although since I posted these threads I've found out some of these things for myself.

BTW, does a copy still exist of "Ending It", a 1957 one-off play on ABC?

Also, you noted that one uploader uploaded commercials from your YouTube account. Would it be possible for you to upload some 1950s/1960-1963 Australian commercials yourself to the Internet Archive?

Not sure if "Ending It" exists; getting details out of the ABC isn't easy...

"Hit Parade" ran from mid-1957 to mid-1959. It ran on Thursday nights at 9.00pm on the 7 network up against "Ellery Queen" on 2 and "Mystery Theatre" on 9 for most of its run.

"Leave it to the Girls" was a GTV-9 show. I don't believe it lasted long. I can only find 1957 listings for it. In August it was running at 8.30 on Wednesdays up against "Playhouse" on 7 and 2's live drama spot. The show was a "TV simulcast" of a Macquarie radio network show. By December the TV show wasn't running and its time slot was taken over by the hour long show "Wyatt Earp" which ran from 8.00.
